Does Square answer your salon's phone?
Square Assistant handles client texts. As of September 2026, Square's appointment tools don't include a phone assistant that answers calls and books appointments. Mila fills that gap, inside the same Square calendar.

What Square Assistant does well
Square Assistant is Square's automated texting tool for appointments. Clients reply to their reminder texts to confirm, reschedule, or cancel, and Square updates your calendar automatically, within the cancellation window you set. It comes with Square Appointments and is on by default for most businesses with online booking. It's a good tool. Keep it on.
What it leaves open: the phone
Some clients will always call. The new client with a question, the caller who wants a specific stylist, the client who never saw the reminder text. Those calls go to whoever can reach the phone, or to voicemail. Square does offer AI voice ordering for businesses that take orders by phone, which is a different job from booking appointments.
Where Mila fits
Mila answers those calls. She books, cancels, and reschedules in the same Square calendar Square Assistant updates, and she answers questions about your services, hours, and policies. There are no duplicate texts. If Square already sends your confirmations, Mila leaves them to Square. If not, she sends one herself, only with the caller's consent.

Which Square plan does Mila need?
Square Appointments Plus or Premium. That's Square's own requirement for any outside tool that books appointments, and we confirm your plan before anything else.
